Lustrous and luxurious with a beautiful natural sheen, real silk has been a highly prized fabric for over a thousand years. Pure silk is made from the cocoons of silkworms. Put simply, the worms spin a thread of silk to create their cocoon, and once formed, the cocoons are carefully unravelled to collect the silk fibres.

The raw silk is then spun into threads and woven into the fabric. It takes about 2,500 silkworms to spin a pound of raw silk. Each cocoon contains about a mile of silk filament, and one thread of silk is made of 48 silk filaments.

With its incredibly soft and flattering texture, we add silk to some of our cotton jumpers and cotton cardigans to give them an extra special sheen.
